6F2 Capping delivered in Peterborough

6F2 is a coarse recycled capping fill graded 0–125 mm, the most widely used capping material on UK earthworks. It builds a stable working platform over soft formations quickly and cheaply, and is the usual first import onto a site once the muckshift is under way.

Into Peterborough and across Cambridgeshire we supply it loose by tipper, by grab lorry where a stockpile has to be loaded or reached over a boundary, or in bulk bags for plots a lorry can't discharge into. Stocked lines are typically delivered within 24–72 hours across PE postcodes. Artic and 8-wheel tipper loads for volume earthworks on the A1/A47 corridors; grab and bulk bags for restricted plots in the city centre and older suburbs.

  • Piling mat build-up where design permits

Fen-edge ground conditions push a lot of Peterborough work towards capping and geotextile working platforms before any sub-base goes down, so 6F5 and 6F2 move in volume here. Plot-scale drainage packages take bedding stone in daily call-offs, and land-drainage and soil-import work draws on BS3882 topsoil through the growing season.

What shapes 6F2 Capping supply in Peterborough

Fen-edge ground that usually needs a capping and geotextile platform first is exactly why 6F2 Capping moves in volume around Peterborough — it builds a working platform that takes plant and lorry traffic before any sub-base goes down. Open fen plots with daily call-off drainage packages decide whether it arrives by tipper, grab or bulk bag. Where the same site is also producing arisings from plot-scale drainage and soil-import work, we plan the removal and the delivery together so the lorry is not running one leg empty. The same routes serve Wisbech, Stamford and Huntingdon.

Questions we get asked

Is 6F2 the same as crusher run or hardcore?

They overlap in practice but are not interchangeable on paper. 6F2 is a specified capping grading under Clause 613 with defined limits, whereas 'hardcore' is a generic term. If your spec names 6F2, order 6F2 and we'll supply the supporting data.

Can 6F2 be used as a sub-base?

No — 6F2 is a capping material. For sub-base use MOT Type 1 to Clause 803, or recycled Type 1 where secondary aggregate is permitted.

Do you deliver into the Fens as well as Peterborough itself?

Yes — Wisbech, March, Whittlesey, Spalding and the surrounding villages are on our standard Peterborough routes.

Material out as well as in, around Peterborough

Most deliveries into Peterborough pair with a removal: the lorry takes your arisings to a licensed facility and comes back loaded, so you pay for one movement rather than two.
