Sub-base & capping

Recycled 6F5 capping — lower carbon capping layer

Recycled 6F5 capping is produced from processed construction and demolition arisings and used in the same duty as primary 6F5 — a coarse capping platform over weak subgrades. Where the specification allows secondary aggregate it is the obvious choice: same performance, lower rate per tonne and a much lower carbon figure to report.

Key specifications

Grading
Coarse graded capping, nominal 0–125 mm
Specification
Clause 613 capping duty, secondary aggregate
Material
Recycled crushed concrete and hardcore
Testing
Grading and compliance data on request
Sustainability
Lower embodied carbon than primary 6F5
Supply formats
Loose tipper, artic bulk loads

Typical uses

  • Capping over weak subgrades where secondary aggregate is permitted
  • Temporary haul roads and compounds
  • Schemes with recycled-content or carbon-reduction targets
  • Bulk fill on cost-sensitive earthworks programmes

Lead time and delivery

Sourced from regional recycling facilities — typically 2–4 working days depending on postcode and depth of stock, with test data supplied on request. On larger schemes we hold production against your programme so call-offs stay on date.

Tipper, grab and artic haulage. Where we are also removing surplus from your site the same lorry returns loaded, cutting haulage cost and empty running.

Frequently asked questions

Can recycled 6F5 be used on highways schemes?

On many schemes yes, subject to the specification and the overseeing organisation's acceptance of secondary aggregate. We provide grading and compliance data to support approval before delivery.

Does recycled capping perform as well as primary stone?

In capping duty, well-processed recycled 6F5 compacts to a comparable working platform. The practical differences are consistency of source and the need for test data, both of which we manage on your behalf.
