Services · Recycled Aggregates

Recycled and secondary aggregates, specified properly.

Recycled Type 1, 6F5 and 6F2 capping, crushed concrete, brick hardcore and recycled bedding — supplied in bulk from recycling facilities across the UK, with the quality documentation the specification expects.

  • Sub-base, capping, fill and piling-mat material
  • Supplied as a product under end-of-waste, with producer documentation
  • Closed-loop option: hardcore out, processed fill back in
  • Straight advice on when only primary stone will do

Where recycled makes sense

  • Capping and sub-base on drives, yards, hardstandings and haul roads
  • Piling mats and temporary working platforms
  • Trench backfill and general levelling fill
  • Bulk fill where primary stone is over-specified for the duty

Where it doesn't

  • Structural concrete aggregate, unless the mix design specifically allows recycled coarse aggregate.
  • Highway pavement layers where a specific primary source or Series clause is mandated.
  • Pipe bedding for a utility whose approved materials list excludes recycled granular.
  • Decorative or exposed finishes, where colour and shape consistency matter.

Why specify recycled

Diverted from landfill

Every load of recycled sub-base is material that would otherwise have been tipped, and primary stone that stayed in the ground. It reads well in a site waste management plan and supports BREEAM and net-zero reporting.

Shorter haulage

Recycling centres sit closer to urban sites than quarries do, so recycled fill often travels far fewer miles — less haulage in the delivered cost and fewer vehicle movements on the programme.

Specification-led

We match the recycled line to what the drawing actually calls for, and say plainly when only primary stone will satisfy the specification.

Compliant material

Recycled aggregate is supplied as a product under an end-of-waste protocol with the producer's quality documentation, not as loose waste.

Closed loop on your own site

Where your dig produces suitable hardcore, we can take it out, and bring processed recycled fill back in — the same movement earning twice.

Bulk availability

Supplied by 8-wheel tipper, grab or artic bulk loads through our national recycling and quarry network.

Recycled aggregate FAQs

Is recycled Type 1 as good as primary MOT Type 1?
For most drives, yards, hardstandings and haul roads, a well-graded recycled Type 1 performs to the same practical standard once compacted. Where the specification names a primary source, a Series clause or a particular grading envelope, use primary Type 1 — we will tell you which applies before you order.
What is the difference between 6F5 and 6F2?
Both are recycled capping materials. 6F5 is coarser and typically used in thicker capping layers over weak formation, while 6F2 has a finer grading suited to thinner layers or where a tighter envelope is specified. The layer thickness on the drawing usually decides it.
Is recycled aggregate classed as waste?
No. Processed recycled aggregate is supplied as a product under an end-of-waste protocol, with quality documentation from the producing facility. That is what allows it to be used as a construction material rather than handled as waste.
Can you recycle the material coming off my site?
Often, yes. Clean concrete, brick and hardcore can be hauled to a recycling facility rather than a landfill tip, and processed recycled fill can come back in on the return leg. Contaminated or mixed arisings need classifying first.
Do you supply recycled material in bulk bags?
Recycled lines are primarily a bulk product delivered by tipper, grab or artic load, which is where they make the most sense commercially. For smaller quantities, ask and we will advise the most practical option for your access.
