Concrete Block Stocks Rise Significantly in July

3 min read

The latest Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) statistics for July indicate a notable increase in the availability of concrete blocks across the UK. This trend suggests potential shifts in material procurement and project planning for those involved in groundworks, civil engineering, and general building.

Stock Levels Jump

At the close of July, total concrete block stocks reached 8.7 million square metres. This represents a significant year-on-year increase, being 55.2% higher than figures recorded for July of the previous year. Furthermore, current stock levels are also substantially above pre-pandemic figures, showing an 18.0% rise compared to July 2019 data.

This upward movement in stock levels follows a period of fluctuating availability and demand within the construction materials market. The sustained increase suggests that manufacturing output or reduced immediate demand is leading to a greater accumulation of finished products within the supply chain.
